ABOUT ANGELES CITY

OVERVIEW
Angeles City is considred to be the best deal in the Philippines. Go-Go bars are plentiful and the bar fines are the lowest: 1,000 pesos for the whole night (although some ladies will try to short change you by only going "short time" - the bars will not back you up if that happens).

Getting to Balibago, Angeles City

Taxi to Victory Liner. Exit the airport customs/arrival hall into the lobby. Go to the escalator to the arrival level (upstairs), or go outside and look for the stairs to the upper level. Look for the city taxis. Before you get in one, make sure that the driver will use his meter, and not insist on a flat rate (which will always be higher than a metered rate).

Just say "Meter?" If you need to repeat, ask "Do you have a meter? Is it working? Are you going to use it?" He may ask you where you are going. You say "Victory Liner in Pasay City" (pronounced PA-sigh). It should be P40 - P60 for this taxi fare, depending upon traffic conditions.

Once you get to the Victory Liner terminal, find the ticket window for the Dagupan Aircon Bus (daag-oo-paan) Just say "Dau" (da-oo) to the ticket seller. The ticket will be marked for KM100, and will cost about P70, and will also be marked with a seat number. The ride takes two hours, longer if the traffic is bad.

If the bus is already there, board and get comfortable. The conductor will stow your luggage under the bus. Take care, when the luggage compartment is opened, that your luggage is not removed while someone else's luggage is being put on.

If you arrive too late to get a city taxi: Get an airport taxi on the arrival level. Expect to pay P100 to P150 to Victory Liner. Last bus to Dagupan is around 10:30PM. Don't try to use Victory Liner if you're leaving the airport after 9:30 PM.

Once you get to Dau, the bus will stop at the Mabalacat Bus Terminal. Get out, collect your luggage, and you can find a tric (if you have luggage) near the front of the terminal, or walk over to MacArthur Hiway and get a jeep (if you only have a carry on). If this is your first time, get a tric, because the driver will know where your hotel is.

If you arrive too late to use Victory Liner: Hire a taxi all the way to Angeles City. Prepare to negotiate. Fees may range from P700 to 1,500.

Getting Around
The local transportation in Angeles is the tric, a three wheeled motorbike. Tric drivers are notorious for overcharging tourists. Either avoid them completely or at least bargain the price before getting in. A ride from the main strip on Fields to Clarkton hotel and vicinity should not be more than 20 Pesos. Remember, the same ride on a jeepney will cost you only 3-4 Pesos.

To catch a jeepney, stand anywhere along the street in the direction the jeepney is going and wave the driver down. Those jeeps are small and silver/grey. Climb in the passenger seat (if it's open) or in the back. There is room for eight people back there. Don't be shy; it's normal to be pressed up against the other passengers.

The following is a list of things I have learned in Angeles after four trips which I would like to share with the curious traveller.

1. One bar, one woman - If you take one chick out for the night, don't go back to the same place the next day and try for her hot friend; not only will the first woman make an embarassing scene but the new woman will think you are a complete pig. The whole bar will hate you, as the Filipinas despise flagrant male promiscuity as much as any woman. I have learned this the hard way. If you want to fuck as many women as possible, you must take each one from a different bar. Violate this old rule at your peril.

2. Tip the DJ's- These people make maybe 2 dollars a night. Stuff a 50 peso note in the booth with a list of your favorite tunes and let the good times roll. "Bed of Roses", by Bon Jovi, long forgotten in the U.S., will make the girls go bananas.

3. Caveat Emptor- ALWAYS make sure a lady agrees to what you want before bar-fining her. This includes fucking, sucking, sleeping over, and not "having menstration". They are under no obligation to have sex with you unless they say they will. Spend lots of time talking to a girl to make sure you don't get a dud or a headcase. Don't just jump at the hottest piece of ass- some of the best lays come in plain packages.

4. Look and Act Nice- It never ceases to amaze me how the nastiest old slobs in the western world seem to flock to Angeles City which is home to some of the sweetest available women alive. Misogynistic, drunken whack-job geriatric losers come here, look dirty and act like pigs, and still get girls. I pity the desperate Filipinas who go with them. I am 34 and of average appearance, but when I put on a white polo (as opposed to a smelly tank top), khakis and loafers and walk into a bar, these women act like I'm fucking Leonardo DeCaprio. I'm not joking.

Actually combing your hair, putting on some cologne and acting like a gentleman will make you the center of female attention and put you in the stratosphere of desireable men in these bars. Use nice words, say nice things, don't cuss or make vulgar comments, and you will have any girl you want. Show some respect. Let the fuck-nut expat psychos drink alone- you will have no competetion from them.

5. Regress to the 3rd Grade- The trick to relating to most Filipinas is to be FUNNY. Their humor level hovers around the 10 year old range. It takes very little to make them laugh anyway, but you can get them rolling if you resort to wacky physical humor or facial expressions. Personal tricks I use include the Donald Duck voice, fat American woman impersonations, and the handshake/fingers through the hair bit. Even rock, scissors, paper can draw a crowd. Try it, or are you too mature?

6. Bring Toys- A deck of cards, silly-putty, a puppet, electric gizmos, a squirt gun or any funny toy will make you the center of attention. These girls are BORED- just look at the exciting qualities of the other customers. Any interesting item from the west will be fascinating to them and be a great ice breaker. Start up a game of go-fish for ladies drinks and watch the whole bar join in.

7. Kill All Tric Drivers- These people are nothing but pure scum. They will try to cheat you. Take an 8-cent jeepney wherever you go and put these bastards out of business.

8. Filipinas Are A Gift From God- Check your dislike, paranoia and past experiences of shrill, opinionated, lard-assed American women at the airport; they have no place in this country. Filipinas are the sweetest, most trusting, loyal and beautiful women in the world on the outside as well as the in. They can cloak themselves from the woman defense radar of most western males and get under your skin very quickly. There is a good reason so many American men choose them to marry and breed with. They are overwhelmingly Catholic, have high morals, posess similar belief and value systems, display a very high aptitude for English and worship caucasian features and anything American. Many are well educated and most want to leave the PI for your hometown. They are pre-programmed to fall in love with you and be your wife. I myself have been proposed to an embarassing number of times and I am hardly a Match.com posterboy. Treat these women with the respect they deserve and you will be well rewarded.

Swagman Wet T-Shirt Contest

The next Wet T-Shirt Contest at the Swagman Hotel in Angeles will be held in October 2004.

Swagman always put on a very professional show, and the sheer number of contestants is sometimes overwhelming!

Expect to pay 600 Pesos to attend, or 1,500 Pesos for a VIP seat. For this, you get an elevated seat up in the Sports Bar, as much liquor as you want, and a terrific buffet. Get there before 12 noon for the best seats.

The contest itself takes about 6 hours. Cameras are permitted, even camcorders.Last time the organizers asked the ladies to keep their panties on, at least until the Final. Most of the contestants know it's "Skin to Win," and readily pose for all and sundry.

The ladies that catch your eye can either be approached at the time, or later in their respective bars. The organizers give out all the info you want.

The Santos Street BJs are P500 and P1000 if you want to take them out back to your hotel and that may or may not include a second or third one or overnight depending on the girl. It's always my favorite place to start out in AC even though it has a "seedy" sleazy feel to it. It's too bad there's not an extra room for BJs or quickies in the bars which would allow you to enjoy the girls between their dancing shifts.

Although the bargirls in Manila have recently been quoting P1500 and P2000 additional to their barfines this is just too much and I laughed in their faces when they asked for that. The standard price in Asia for over 20 years has been U$10 to U$20 for a shortime depending on whether it's on location or outside. You can add a U$20 barfine to that price in Manila but outside of Manila it's included in the "package" .

The "blow job" bars are exactly that. They are where you go if you must have a girl who sucks dick. The way it works is you choose the girl you like (usually, she chooses you!) and then you go in the back of the bar where they have small, private rooms. There she will suck you off. The cost is about $10, depending on the exchange rate (expect about 50 pesos per US dollar).

Now, another point about the blow job bars. The girls can be bar fined out not only for short time, but for all night as well, just like in the other bars. You can also take the girl back to your hotel for short time. Just show the girl your hotel card, then pay the fee (450 pesos or so), then the girl goes with you for an hour or two. If you like her, you can have her spend the night (you'll have to pay the full bar fine in that case, about $20).

Some of the BJ girls do claim to be virgin (i.e., cherry girls). In such a case, you won't be able to screw her (unless you're willing to pay the steady bar fine, about $300) or the virgin fee (rate depends on the girl). However, keep in mind many of the cherry girls a)are not really cherry, so if you are sly, you can get down their pants, b)want to lose their cherry and if they like you will give it up for free, c)will do alternate sex (i.e., up the ass).

The blow job bars are located behind Kokomo's/La Bamba on Santos street. Technically they are open 24 hours, but the girls don't get up till late in the afternoon.

i am planning on being there for about two weeks. ill be meeting my friend who i have not seen in about 3 years. She will tour me around for a while. i doubt ill be able to sneak away for any single fun though.

Cebu is a great place to visit as well as Boracay, though i dont really recomend going any further south from what she is telling me (she lives in Mindanao) and what is in the news. Just watch out for ASG and MILF. Bagio City is also a great place to hang out.

Gentlemen,

I just returned from a week in AC. 9-1 / 9-7-02. I have been to Thailand over a dozen times but this was my first AC trip. The Swagman contest is scheduled for late October, I think on the 23rd from 11am-5pm. There are a few great clubs in town with Cambodia being the newest. I will try and post a few pictures. I found the town to look like a war zone, however the women were much friendlier than the Thai, due to their ability to speak very good English.

jj, any info on which clubs you liked the best, your favorites? I fully understand your comments about the town itself! I was there about 2.5 years ago and found it very difficult to occupy my time with anything other than the bars (night life). It is GREAT to be able to speak (completely) with the ladies and you can find some fun and exciting ladies (though I think there is more searching involved than BKK) but the town it’s self is a dump. I understand people do not go to AC looking for culture or glamour but at least BKK has other activities besides just the wonderful nightlife. The lack of alternative activities is the only reason I have not been back to AC for several years. I'm going back to AC for the first time since my inaugural trip several years ago, any new or personal recommendations would be appreciated.

allasia,

Since you have been there then you know the deal! A great attitude anf knowing how to have fun with the ladies means a lot. If you spend a little and buy some lady drinks for the girls goes a long way... It will make you a superstar.

The Bigger bars had by far the best girls, these were usually the hostesses, front door girls and waitresses.

The best were Volcano, Blue Nile, Neros Forum and Cambodia. Then Came Illusions and Brown Sugar. Stay away from Santos Street, Yuck......

It seemed that the smaller bars had the ugliest women, but everyones taste is different.

Hotels: We were going to stay at the Orchid, but it was full. We stayed at the Oasis, which is about a mile and a half from the bar district. It is a great hotel and the girls love it. They think you are a rock star for staying there. Prices were US $30-$50 for rooms. I thought the Orchid was a dump and everyone we talked to there said it was very loud. The Oasis also had the best restaurant in Town. We checked out the Clarkton, it was less expensive and not too bad either.

Money: The peso trades for the US dollar at $1 equalling 51.9 pesos, a great rate. Girls Bar fines were around 1000 pesos. After the night was over we tipped 500 to 1000 pesos and they loved us for it. I guess a lot of guys do not tip.

Shopping: Almost none. If you are a pool player there are a couple of great pool stick stores available. For around $50 US you can buy a stick that is worth over $1000 here in the states. Go to Ralphs, it is one block past Kokomos on the Right. The lady that owns it is a Harvard Grad Dentist (funny). Her little dentist shop is in the back.

Food: The Oasis was like eating in a five star restaurant, everything was awesome. Breakfast Buffet 220 pesos ($4.50), lunch was around the same. Dinners were never more than $6-8, and that was for Filet Mignon. Salvatores was good for Italian, it was accross from the Volcano Club. Kokomos and Margarita Station had passable Burgers and fries.

Transportation: The Jeepnies were the best deal, but they cannot get all the way into town, due to major road construction right in front of Margarita Station. They cost 4 pesos to take you anywhere. The Trike guys are a bunch of pirates, but you are stuck using them sometimes. They jack you for 40 - 50 pesos, although it is still only a buck.

We had no trouble with the locals, but it is very much a "wild west" kind of town with the dirty streets and half tumbled down structures. It makes Thailand seem like a paradise. That and the fact that there is not a whole lot to do but eat, sleep, drink and f...!

We also bought almost all the Mamasan's drinks when we walked into a bar. This always worked out as they would buy us 2-3 more. Then all the girls would come around and you know the rest......

Bring some decent clothes, take a shower and put on some cologne. They will love you for this. There are a ton of old, fat stinky pigs there. If you are remotely well dressed, smell good and look at least ok, you will be a GOD! I know we were, and they will never forget us.

One night at Blue Nile we had a drinking contest with one Mamasan, then two Mamasan's then all three Mamasan's, throw in five dancers and ten waitresses, then they all started doing blow job shots off our crotches. We did this for about two hours and the whole bar stood still and watched the show. They all wanted us to take them home. Only problem was we had drank with them all and could barely walk.

Bottom Line: I liked AC, but it appeared that the town was slolwly going down hill. A lot of bars were closed. If you bar hop, they all know you and are shouting your name (they never forget) from the doorway as you walk by. There were maybe 1000 Bar girls in all. It waqs hard to find anything above a 7. In Pattaya there are so many bars that this almost never occurs. It is a small town and you have to follow the rule "One Bar--One Girl". They are very possesive once they get you. I had a great time, but would probably choose Pattaya over AC.

JJ,

Yes I kind of know what to expect with AC as I did spend 4 days there a few years ago. The comment that scares me a little, that it appears to be "going down hill". The town was already pretty far down hill 2.5 years ago, how much farther could it go?

Just a few questions about the hotels you mentioned. I stayed at the Orchid on my last trip. At that time they had just completed the "new" section of the hotel. I thought the rooms where pretty nice and comfortable. The thing about the Orchid (like you mentioned) is it is often full! However the convenient location is hard to beat (if I remember correctly, it is right off the strip)! The hotels you mentioned I am not aware of? How did you get back and forth from the bars? Did you find it difficulties or have any problems getting back and forth from the "strip" (i.e. late at night 1-2am, etc)? Do you have any info on the hotels you did recommend (web-site? Phone?). Finally, I have heard mixed comments about the Tropicana; did you happen check out that hotel?

Since I stayed so close to the "strip" I never had to use a Jeepnie? or other transportation. What is that like a Tuk-Tuk or something?

Also, I cannot remember what transportation to use from the airport in Manila. What did you use or what do you recommend using? If I remember correctly it is quite a ride (1-2 hrs) to AC.

Thanks again for your comments and help!
Matt

Allasia.. a jeepny is a jeep that has been extended to carry passengers. you can get up to 15 or so people in them (beware of pickpockets!!) they are based on the old style willys jeeps from WW2. most(all) are decorated and vividly painted. last i remember from my visits to SB before the base closed is the different colors are to identify the routes or who owns it. Never, never pay more than 5P for any trip.

I used the internet to find all of the hotels. Just go to Yahoo and type in Angeles City hotels, Philippines. This will bring up a long list. I booked through action travel, which is in Kokomos and they gave me a 20% discount. People had a lot of nice things to say about the Orchid, mostly that it is close to everything (one block from the bar district). At night I had to take a trike from the bar district with my date back to the hotel. About a five minute ride for 50 pesos.

The Tropicana is a real dive, do not stay there.

I booked my transportation through margarita station, the other big / bar restaurant in town. They are listed on the web as well. It costs anywhere from 1550 pesos for a car to 2150 pesos for a delux van with a dvd player. They meet you at the airport after you pick up your baggage. Traffic in Manilla sucks, it took 2.5 hours to get to Angeles and 3 to get back to the airport.

razman 13 is right, the jeppny is a converted truck with seats along the back sides, sort of like in pattaya. They all look like relics from WWII.

Since I had never been to AC before, my comment that it appears to be going downhill was just my opinion. When the US pulled out of the base they assumed that they would make the base a big airport. This has not happened so they lost all of the big dollars coming in. We saw no major means of income for the people there. The average income is 140-200 pesos per day for a bar girl, thats $3-4 US dollars a day, kind of hard to live on that anywhere.

JJ... most of the Jeepney are not relics.. they are hand built and look likethat for the style,it is a icon for the Phils. My GF there owns three of them down in Mindanao and makes a decent living and supports her three brothers who drive them.

A bar girl that only makes p140-200 a day?? She is not doing a very good job then. With the bf running about p2000 and her lady drinks and tip afterwards(not including food and a good place to sleep, gifts, ect), seems a bit a understatement. Last time i was there (1990-1992) a girl was easily making about p200,000 a month. The US military being there no doubt helped out in that total. With all the postings i am reading here seems to still support that amount. Guess it really boils down to how we hobbiest take care of the girl who is taking care of us, be it short or long time.

Mongothai: Thanks for the favorable plug. I read the board myself prior to travelling anywhere and I post the information that I would have liked to see!

razman 13: You are right the girls do make more. The 140-200 peso salary is just their base. All od the bars are advertising for dancers and waitresses and this was the figure on the signs outside the doors. They do get a percentage of the lady drinks they sell and 1/2 of the 1000 peso bar fine (about $10 US). Right now it is the slow season and many bars were completly empty of customers. One night at 2am we went to the Las Vegas Club (right accross from the Orchid) and we were the only two customers).

In talking to the girls I had bar fined (I try to pick the hottest), they say they don't go bar fine very often. I know, I know..... They want you to beleive this, but I kind of did based on what I had observed. As I said before, I do my best to take care of the girl that I bar fined. As for the jeepny's..... Yes they could be built from scratch, they come in all sizes shapes and colors!

jj, I have been reading up and checking out some of the AC web sites. I found the Margarita station site where I found the available reservations for pick-up at the airport, thanks. I also found the Kokomos site but cannot locate where hotel reservations are available from that site?

I contacted the Orchid directly and of course they are very busy I would have to move 3 times during a 7 day period if I stayed there, not very encouraging. I earlier how you made out with transportation back and forth from your hotel (to the bar area) late at night. i.e. the availability of jeepnies or other rides at say 2am? (any thoughts or problems)

I really liked the orchid (last trip) and the web-site looks like even more improvements have been made since I was there 2.5 years ago. However, moving 3 times in 7 days is not going to happen.

Lastly, (this is an open question for jj or anyone else) I found in my Internet searches that 3 golf courses are in the AC area. Is this true, has anyone been to them? Are they worth a round or 2 during the day? Do they rent equip. or must I take my own?

I'm just a little concerned about filling the days (before the bars open). It was not a problem last time but then I was only there 3 night (4 days) not 7 days.

Thanks again

allasia,

I know they frown on posting web addresses here so I hope this flies. go to:

http://www.balibago.com/where_to_stay.html

It has all the hotels, descriptions and everything you need.

I had no problems getting back to the Oasis late at night. You have to use a trike, you probably remember them from last time. It cost about 40-50 Pesos.

As for filling the days: You are right, the biggest activity we saw were the expats staring at the dirty streets from their perches at Kokomos and Margarita Station. We found this hilarious. Same guys everyday. There is not much to do around AC. We did not golf, however I do recall seeing several advertisements for it around town. We usually slept in a bit, did lunch at Kokomos or Margarita Station also the Oasis (Where we stayed) had the best food of all. Then we did the hotel pool for awhile, they also had a pool table under an outdoor bar that was fun in the afternoon. Then it was naptime. We started out about 6-7pm, had dinner then hit the bars, made for a pretty full day. The girls loved our hotel and would stay with us there during the day or would come back and go swimming.

The Oasis will also arrange tours to the beaches that razman 13 was talking about. We did not do this. Good Luck.

JJ,

Thanks for all the info...I really hate to keep asking you questions because it seems like I'm asking the same thing over and over again. I'm concerned about the hotels there since I only ever stayed at Orchid and never had the chance to look around. soooo here it goes again.

You had really favorable things to say about the Oasis so I'm looking into that as my choice for the week (if available). My question is which type room do you recommend (or have) is the standard room adequate (is that where you stayed)? Is it worth the extra money for the suite? Lastly they list (web-site) the standard as coming with 2 double beds...I sure hope this is not the norm?

Thanks again for your help

allasia,

We took the Deluxe Rooms, I booked through Action Travel and got a 20% discount on the room. I wish I could post pictures on here because I could show you the room. It was great and about $44 US dollars a night. We looked at the Orchid and it did not compare at all. I get the impression that a lot of travellers to Angeles are really really really cheap...... they try to get anywhere to sleep, some rooms are as low as $15 a night but you get what you pay for.....

The Oasis Deluxe Suite was huge with a giant King size bed. the living room area had nice rattan couches and chairs, although I didn't use this area too much. When you tell the girls where you are staying you just have to see the expression on their faces light up!! They think you are a Rock Star!! It was worth it for that. The only draw back is you are a bit off the strip, while the Orchid was in the middle of it. One guy complained that the Orchid was really loud and hard to sleep. Put it this way, when I go again next March, I will definately do the Oasis again. Oh yeah, the smaller rooms were not bad and were $30 a night.

Bars: There are a lot, Do you know where the best ones are yet?

JJ,

I only know what you originally recommended..…
the best were Volcano, Blue Nile, Neros Forum and Cambodia. Then Came Illusions and Brown Sugar. Stay away from Santos Street, Yuck.....

Any info you (recommendations) would like to provide on the bars would be appreciated. I particularly do not know which bars are best (recommended) since I have not been in AC for many years.

On my last trip I had great success at La Bamba and Champagne. Not because those where the best or biggest bars just because I found 2 really hot and fun girls there. Since I only had 3 nights there I took one girl (2 times) from Champagne and 1 from La bamba. That’s the only reason I would say those are my favorite. Just because of my success with those particular ladies, whom I'm sure are no longer there. At least I would hope they are not there anymore. As you a aware the selection is not the same as in BKK so when you luck out with an 8 or 9 and then have an amazing time on top of that…You tend to have good memories of those bars.

Fill me in with whatever recommendations you would care to share. I would be appreciative.

JJ, I see from the thread above you are currently in SE Asia...if you are in PI at or near the end of Nov., give a shout, I'll buy you a beverage of your choice...

Razman, the same goes for you...I know you said your schedule was pretty full with your GF and all.... I appreciate all the great info you guys provided for my upcoming trip. Thanks!

If there are any new bar recommendations or warnings please let me know! I noticed in reading through the threads someone mentioned that the bar fine in Angeles was 2000P? It's been awhile since I was there but if I remember that is double what I paid in '99. Have the prices jumped that much or is my memory worse that I thought??? What are the current bar fine rates and what has been (anyone's) experience with capturing Kodak moments with PI girls. Are they more difficult with pictures than say Thai girls or same, indifferent, etc?

Just curious as to the girls attitude toward photo's. Of course the almighty dollar (or Peso in this case) may change the tone of any girl...anyone have experience or thoughts on the girls reactions /problems with photo's?
