In the Economist magazine there is a very popular section called the McDonalds hamburger index. This prices the hamburger at McDonalds across many countries and translates the price by exchange rate to identify those countries are over and under priced. The beauty of it is that the McDonald hamburger is a standard comparison base. This is used to determine which countries are over/under priced. I would suggest that a similar 'short time' index is established so all can see the over/under pricing of that standard commodity across many countries. Who knows, maybe global economists will view that comparison a better reflection of prosperity across nations! |

I agree as this used to be done with the comparison of a cup of coffee. However how do you explain this not working in places like the USA where a Mc Donald's hamburger is .39 and sex is over twice what you pay in other countries. From my travels in Europe prices are almost double at Mc Donald's that they are in the US but sex is twice as expensive in the US. You can get laid in Germany for the pirce of a nice restaurant dinner for two but in the US you can fly round trip to Germany for the price of getting laid for an hour. Go figure.... I think it all comes down to a cost of living for the women and what the customer is willing to pay in that country. After all if men stopped paying what the women asked prices would go down. I think as the internet exposes and informs men of less expensive options prices will naturally go down as competition goes up. Not to forget that the internet can expose the bad deals and rip off artists as well. |

Interesting discussion here. Yes, the cost of living is certainly a factor when it comes to setting the prices of Big Macs and sex, but there are other factors at work here; namely, social ones. For example: The USA practically invented fast food, but we're also among the worst there is when it comes to paid sex. That's why Big Macs are cheap and paid sex is horribly expensive and usually lousy. It's not uncommon to go to some podunk Nevada town and find Big Macs on special for 99 cents, and then go out to a decrepit ranch where some past-her-prime broad (who wouldn't last five seconds in an FKK club) tries to charge you upwards of $800 - $1000 for an hours' worth of condoms, rubber gloves, "don't touch me here" and "you didn't pay for that." It's funny, we in the States would never allow McDonald's to get away with charging four or five bucks for a Big Mac, as people gladly pay in parts of Europe. Yet, a lot of us don't have a problem with dropping big bucks for small services when it comes to paid sex. That just goes to show you how different our attitudes are. In Europe, Big Macs are a novelty and sex is just a bodily function. Ergo, Big Macs are expensive and lousy, and paid sex is good and inexpensive. Here, Big Macs are just another hamburger and sex is dirty, filthy, and sinful. Ergo, Big Macs are good and inexpensive, and paid sex is expensive and lousy.

Thanks for your update e-mail. We all agree that US is the most backwards Country in the world as far as women are concerned. There are three sexes: MEN-WOMEN-American Women. I have just come back from Berlin....what a paradise. Thank goodness we are all different, as I much prefer Europedan women, specially East European. Anyone goinhg to Germany, Poland or Czech Rep.and wants to exchange what where and how? Felix
